Videocon wanted a revolution in television sound. He innovated the Bazoomba.

In 2000 Videocon built its flagship televisions around the Bazoomba Sound System — the sound system Sanjiv Malvi innovated for them, so that a television could fill a room the way a music system does. “Poised to create a revolution in television sound,” Videocon wrote to him that August, and appointed him its official calibrated listener and advisor. Sansui’s Hard Rock and Mega Flat, Toshiba’s Realism in Sound and a consultancy for Philips followed.

In the 1990s, as Dolby Surround arrived in India’s cinemas, Odel built the large loudspeakers those cinemas needed — and, at the other end of the scale, satellites small enough to be tucked out of sight in a home, years before the sub-sat idea became commonplace. From the large to the micro, all of it designed and built by Sanjiv Malvi in Bombay.
